WMNF presents: Vanessa Collier w/ Reverend Billy C. Wirtz
Vanessa Collier (BLUES) is a captivating and multitalented blues vocalist, saxophonist, and songwriter, hailing from the world-renowned Berklee College of Music where she earned dual degrees in Performance and Music Production & Engineering. Prior to releasing her debut album in August 2014, Vanessa spent a year and a half touring in the U.S. and internationally with Grammy Award-winning, Blues Hall of Fame Artist Joe Louis Walker. Vanessa has also played alongside Annie Lennox, Kathy Mattea, Willie Nelson, and other notable artists.
Reverend Billy C. Wirtz (BLUES/PIANO/COMEDY)
Billy hosts the Friday afternoon Rhythm Revival show on WMNF, and he is a world famous singer-pianist- comedian whose live performances are wildly entertaining. Billy met Vanessa when her band was playing WMNF Live Music Showcase preceding Billy’s show. He was so knocked out by her performance that he invited her to sit in on his show – and then was impressed how this young woman was deeply immersed in the post WW2 blues, soul and gospel that he plays on the show. This kicked off an ongoing music friendship and musical relationship.
