Dale’s Pale Ale Presents

Steep Canyon Rangers (BLUEGRASS)

A bluegrass band at their core, the Steep Canyon Rangers effortlessly walk the line between festival favorite and sophisticated string orchestra. They’re as danceable as the most progressive, party-oriented string band, and equally comfortable translating their songs for accompaniment by a full symphony.

It’s that mix of serious chops and good-natured fun that earned the Steep Canyon Rangers the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album Grammy in 2013 (for Nobody Knows You), and that drew celebrated comedian/banjoist Steve Martin to them when he needed a backing band. The Rangers are world-class musicians who are just as at home taking the stage at Carnegie Hall as they are knee- deep in a mountain brook, fly rod in hand.

Grandpa’s Cough Medicine (OUTLAW BLUEGRASS)

Blazing tempos, outlaw attitude, foot-stomping intensity, acoustic wizardry. These things all accurately describe Grandpa’s Cough Medicine’s tongue in cheek approach to bluegrass music. Carving out a niche that is all their own, they include humor and dark subject matter in their lyrics, yet are fully capable of letting their musicianship do the talking with instrumental compositions. The trio’s seemingly simple combination of flat-picked guitar, Scruggs style banjo, upright bass and two vocals creates a sound so huge, that it can make a six piece band blush. Their first CD “Jailbird Blues” was lauded in their hometown of Jacksonville, FL as one of the “Top Ten Local Albums of 2011″, and their second album “The Murder Chord” was released in August of 2012 to high acclaim. They were the top-voted music act in 2014’s One Spark festival in Jacksonville, garnering publicity and $12,000 in prize money. This money was used to record their third album “180 Proof”, which was released February 6, 2015 and features guest spots from Jason Carter, Aaron Till, Randy Kohrs, Isaac Corbitt and Hank Williams III. They have played with badass acts such as: Yonder Mountain String Band, Acoustic Syndicate, Jim Lauderdale, Jeff Austin, The Del McCoury Band, Larry Keel, and many more. More recently Brett Bass and Banjo Boy Mike Coker won their individual categories at the 2015 Rockygrass Festival instrument contests in Colorado. This train is moving fast and hard, and we would love to join you!
